The Greek Government In Ancient Times:
Have you heard of many civilizations or countries that in Ancient times that all people had a say and a big one? Well, probably you haven’t heard of many, but one might stick out and that civilization is Ancient Greece. Ancient Greece was basically one of the first civilizations in Ancient times that had a Democracy/Oligarchy as its government. Which means it was ruled by the people. This meant that the public were the ones who took the decisions. You might be wondering as to why in Ancient Greece so much power was given to the people of no status. Well this was because in Greece it wasn’t a huge country , in-stead there were multiple city states which were self governed. Therefore there was an importance of every-person in all of Greece from the slaves to the soldiers because each person contributed a lot in the daily life of everyone's life, if someone didn’t do their job it could ruin the whole city states, therefore there was a lot of importance given to the people because the people themselves demanded more rights and importance so they were granted with that. Although the laws were all voted by the people of Greece only men who had completed their military training were certified as citizens and were able to vote. Nonetheless although all of the citizens voted for laws and had a lot of powers there were still some officials. Some of these officials were voted by lottery so even the poor had a chance to become rich, and some main officials, like a treasure and army generals were voted by the citizens. Like many other civilizations and countries the Greeks also had 3 main bodies of government which were the assembly, the console of 500, and also the courts. Starting with the assembly, the assembly was where whichever citizen showed up could vote on many important decisions in a large group and for huge decisions. For example they might think of going to war or avoiding it with another city state. Secondly comes the console. The console was made up of all the people that were chosen by lottery. If you were one of the people that was chosen by lottery you would be apart of the console for a complete year and they were the people that ran the daily affairs of the governments of the city states of Ancient Greece. Finally, the last body of government in Ancient Greece was the court's. The courts were basically what we know courts as today. In Ancient Greece the courts were were all legal actions and trials were handled the Jury. Sometimes for private trials the jury was of 201 people and for public trials the jury consisted of 501 people. Overall I think that I can easily and without a doubt it can be said that it seems like the Greeks had a government a lot like we do today and also a lot different.

Ancient Greece Compared to Canadian Government
Well you might be thinking is the government of Ancient Greece alike or different from our current political system here in Canada. Well, this conversation could go both ways because there are both many similarities and differences between the governments in Ancient Greece and in current Canada. One similarity between these two governments is that they had an assembly, which is very much like our house of commons, and that their courts were pretty much the same as our courts today. In both Ancient Greece and in Canada currently the courts were both used to prove the innocent to the guilty, and they were also used to pass verdicts, and to finally to do legal actions. Although there were some similarities there are also many differences. One difference being that here in Canada everyone has political rights including women. In Ancient Greece city-states only men that had completed military training had rights in politics, and the women had no rights. Another huge difference is that in Ancient Greece the citizens could voice their opinions and could vote on all the laws, and that the assembly was made up of people that were chosen by lottery. Here in Canada first of all we don’t vote on laws and we vote for a representative that takes decisions for us, and we also have a console instead of an assembly who are chosen as Members of Parliaments. Another thing that should be added is another difference between the Ancient Greece government and the government of Canada is that both the countries had citizens, but a difference was that in Canada you are required to take an oath in order to become a citizen. The oath talks about how you are expected to respect Canada and Queen Elizabeth and in Ancient Greece there was no oath that you were required to take. Overall to wrap up I think it can easily be said that we have taken a few things from the Greeks about government and we have done a few things completely different when it comes to Canadian government.
Ancient Greece Compared to Ancient Rome Government
Well if Ancient Rome and Greece are compared than you can mainly say that the main difference between these governments was that their forms of governments were different and the way they were ruled. Examples about this include that the Greece government was a democracy, and in Ancient Rome it was a Monarchy, because they were ruled by Emperors, such as Julius Caesar. Another difference between the governments of Ancient Rome and Greece was that in Rome they had some certain laws in Ancient times, which no matter what could not be broken, they were called the twelve tables, and in Ancient Greece they had nothing of that sort. Although there were some differences in the governments of the Ancient Romans and Greeks they also had a few similarities. One of these similarities were that in both places only citizens were able to vote for laws or for emperors or leaders. Another similarity between these two places and that in their governments was that for someone to become a citizen they had to do military training unless they were invited from another country to be a citizen. Overall to wrap I think I can say that both of these governments were ran on different methods and yet both these civilization still operated very well.
