Ancient Greece Military
Undoubtedly apart from the Roman Military the Greeks also had an outstanding Military force and were fairly successful because of their Military. The Greeks had outstanding leaders and soldiers. Ancient Greece’s Military is known really well for their many fierce warriors one being the Hoplite warriors. everything in warfare and were one of the main reasons they won wars because the Hoplite warriors took out multiple enemies at once. The Hoplite warriors were just ordinary citizens of Greece, but were so good because they were the ones to be able to afford good armor and weapons. Apart from their Hoplite warriors the military of Ancient Greece also had many other people and items they won wars because of. Another one of these being using huge warships. This gave the Greeks an advantage in larger wars that extended to the oceans. With these huge warships the Greeks were able to usually have an advantage and the upper hand. Some of these ships were so powerful that just on contact it could sink an opposing ship within moments. Most Greek warships had both oars and sails, therefor they were able to go much faster than they would have been able to with just sails or just oars. Some of the larger warships had 3 sets of oars apart from the sails to be able to move at a good speed and this required 170 men or more to be able to turn all of these wars. Isn’t that crazy? Well I think it is. The Greek army also had many more elements to assist them in warfare, such as, light infantry, which had simple javelin throwers. They also had some horses to help them scout ahead, but they costed a lot of money so only the wealthy had them. The Greeks also had a great engineering group, which provided them with outstanding weapons, which helped them a lot in warfare. Some of these weapons included bows and arrows, swords, spears, catapults, daggers, shields and much more. The Greeks also like the Romans had a gigantic army. This army was made of a standing army, Hoplite warriors, swordsmen, and also archery units. Also the military of Ancient Greece was constantly changing in ancient times, but it was most changed when Phillip the second was the new leader of Greece, after he took it over. He had been observing the military of Greece for Centuries and when it was finally his turn to rule he brought a huge change to the military, by bringing some Hellenic warfare techniques into the Greek warfare. Many people were surprised when the new war with Greece vs Issus, so many people had said that they had never seen this before. The Greeks came out stronger than ever before and were able to have many victories due to their military. I think that I can say for a fact that the country of Greece was impacted in a really good way because of all the wars they won just because of their military. Much wealth and more was brought to the country of Greece because of the military and I think that if I lived in Greece I would have been extremely proud of my ancestors for having put together such a great military force even if they did lose to the Romans after.

Ancient Greece Military Compared to Ancient Rome Military
Well, I think you can say that the largest difference between the militaries in Ancient Greece and in Ancient Rome was about the warfare techniques they used. I say this because the Romans used mostly only ground force and didn’t have many special trained and heavily armoured soldiers. Whereas the Greeks did not have as many soldiers, but had many other things to help them win wars such as, large battle-ships and special groups of soldiers called Hoplite-Warriors. Another difference was that when it came to warfare and ideas, the Greeks were not people who stole the ideas of other countries, but the Romans were, and they did this to Greece, when they stole their idea of large shields. A third difference of Ancient Rome and Ancient Greece, one similarity that really stuck out was that in Ancient Greece some wars were fought by the gods of Greece and some were not and in Rome there is no history of gods in Rome ever going in a war. Finally coming to one of the similarities of Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome is that both of the militaries in this case had all the soldiers pay for their own equipment for quite a long time. Overall an end to these two militaries is that one of the last wars of both Ancient Rome and Ancient Greece was the war they had against each other in which the Romans emerged victorious.
