Ancient Rome Military
Leaving its mark everywhere, being born ready armed. These were a few of the many things people remember the Roman military as. The Roman army was very successful and was the main reason the Roman Empire was able to soar to such great heights. The Roman military along with it’s fierce warriors and Army was able to take over basically all their neighboring countries. The Roman’s had such a strong force mainly because men were involved in warriors as young as the age of sixteen and kept them going to wars and training until the age of 60, isn’t this a little harsh. This was one of the small reasons of many large ones why the Roman Military was compared to the marines, but their was a remark made which said “They were just like the marines, but much nastier”. Originally the Roman military was just made of Roman’s, but as they conquered multiple countries, such as Italy and Greece the Romans started hiring other people from other countries to be their soldiers. The Romans were known for leaving their mark everywhere because they built new roads, forts, bases, depots, and much more. The new soldiers that were hired were not only trained how to be soldiers, but were also taught how to construct all these structures. The Military also had a huge part in policing because some of the Roman soldiers were made police officers to keep peace in towns and to control riots. The engineering and the equipment that the Romans had was also a huge part of their success other than the fact about the Roman army having over 700,000 soldiers. That’s crazy isn’t it. The engineering helped the Military of Ancient Rome a lot because they were able to create more weapons. An example being that most soldiers were armed with a shovel, sword, and also a spear. This sounds like a lot of equipment not to mention their armor. Also when going to war the Romans had to march with all this equipment on without breaks. I for one know I would have died. The Romans also had much more equipment for different people such as bows and arrows, daggers, swords, spears, pikes, light throwing javelins, slings, and more. Sometimes the Roman army would also steal ideas for equipment from other civilizations and countries. For example they stole the idea of massive shields from the Greeks. This also leading to the fact that they had also destroyed the Greeks in a war. Also the military of Rome was always adopting new equipment. Some examples include the Corvus, different types of armor, cavalry with bows, and an astonishing fact is that unlike many civilizations and countries the Romans also tested with huge animals, such as Elephants. Wait a second, we know a lot about the Roman army and how they had so much equipment and such a huge army with hundreds of thousands of soldiers, but how did they fund all of this. The Romans and the military was able to fund this mainly for one reason. Wars and conquering! Before when the Roman army was not as big and not as strong soldiers were forced to get their own equipment, but as time went on the State of Rome had to fund all of this and doing this they faced a huge issue on how to fund it all and then the Romans started doing two things one was collecting taxes, but this only gave the Roman army only a little bit of the money that was needed, so therefor the Romans started to conquer more lands so that they could help the economy more and also be able to afford such a large military. Overall we can say that without a shadow of a doubt that the Romans were such a successful civilization in Ancient Times mainly because of the extremely strong military force they had.

Comparison Between Ancient Rome and Greece Military
Well, I think you can say that the largest difference between the militaries in Ancient Greece and in Ancient Rome was about the warfare techniques they used. I say this because the Romans used mostly only ground force and didn’t have many special trained and heavily armoured soldiers. Whereas the Greeks did not have as many soldiers, but had many other things to help them win wars such as, large battle-ships and special groups of soldiers called Hoplite-Warriors. Another difference was that when it came to warfare and ideas, the Greeks were not people who stole the ideas of other countries, but the Romans were, and they did this to Greece, when they stole their idea of large shields. A third difference of Ancient Rome and Ancient Greece, one similarity that really stuck out was that in Ancient Greece some wars were fought by the gods of Greece and some were not and in Rome there is no history of gods in Rome ever going in a war. Finally coming to one of the similarities of Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome is that both of the militaries in this case had all the soldiers pay for their own equipment for quite a long time. Overall an end to these two militaries is that one of the last wars of both Ancient Rome and Ancient Greece was the war they had against each other in which the Romans emerged victorious.
